Color of the month… “Burnt Red”!

This summer we are indulging into the warmest color of them all… red! And not just any red, burnt red. It has a deep and vibrant appeal attracting attention with even the tiniest splash of its shade. Today, we are going to share with you a few of our favorite burnt red products, ideas and inspiration!

With this color it is easy to transform any room from dull to lively! Many stores are stocking up with some great red products that also have some really interesting and unique patterns. Check out some of favorite things from West Elm, Pottery Barn & World Market below!Since this color is so bold, it is really important to not overdo it, especially in a room where you want to keep the mood soothing and relaxing. Getting a multicolored pattern (like the one on the bench above) is the perfect way to break up the intense color. Also, patterns will help you bring in more colors and make it easier to create the color pallete you want to stick with. Without completely re-doing (and spending a ton of non refundable cash) adding pops of red to your drapery, wall color, pillows, lighting or accent chairs can make a big difference. Pair this color with greys, yellows, whites, navy blue or even aqua! Looking for lighting? Let us share some ideas with you!!

Lighting fixtures are one of the most important factors I consider when I design a space. Whether you’ve got tons of natural light, or none at all, a beautiful light is a perfect way to add drama and personality to a room. It’s not just for task purposes, but aesthetically as well! Below I have hand picked some of my favorite fixtures that will add the wow factor to any home for under $500!

Design Within Reach is one of the best places to purchase something unique and modern. Their pieces truly reflect sophistication and originality. Check out these fixtures I found…

The Satellite Pendant is another mid century modern option from Design Within Reach. It’s the perfect fixture to create a retro flair in your space! And the large scale makes the fixture have presence!

West Elm is another favorite company of mine that offers a wide range of table lamps, floor lamps, sconces, and chandeliers. You could be shopping for a bedroom, living room or entry and you can always find something at West Elm that wont break the bank! These pendants from West Elm come in an antiqued mercury glass or clear glass. The have a clean and contemporary shape and can go in a transitional or modern space. Depending on the space, adding 1-3 pendants in a row will add a finished look over your island or rectangular dining table with plenty of light! Or even create your own cluster of lights using 3-5 of them together hanging at different heights.

Looking for a floor lamp? Look no more… Pottery Barn has a “Photographer’s Tripod Lamp” that will complement an office, bedroom or even family room, giving off a “well traveled” look.

Another great resource that I use all the time is Lamps Plus. This chrome base lamp would be perfect as a pair for any entry way. It has a four-way switch to control the lighting and a glamourous chrome base design to add a unique look to your room.

Check out my latest bathroom remodel…

I just finished a lovely contemporary bathroom remodel in the heart of Hollywood. It was such a fun project!! It was the master bathroom of the house at a mini 4′-6″ W x 9′-0″L. Yes, MASTER BATH!! But, I was up for the challenge and I knew I could do something beautiful for my clients.

As I approached this design, I knew I needed to be smart about the materials I selected and also to use lighting in a way that would highlight the positive features of the bathroom. I chose to use a mixture of modern “spa like” materials such as the grey floor pebbles in the shower and walls, along with a “wave” style porcelain tile. Then I chose to combine a white Carerra Marble detail as a 4″ border that wrapped around the floor. I highlight this border with a floating vanity and accent light below it to give a nice glow. Here are some snapshots of what I designed.

Along with mixing materials, I wanted to add a few features that you would normally find in a hotel. I chose a mirror with built in vanity lighting as opposed to have a light fixture sitting above the mirror and I also installed 2 LED mini wall sconces for the interior of the shower (take a look at the pictures with the teak bench). These are great accents and act as a wonderful night light!! Other details include a slim line toilet with a sleek shape, all the bells and whistles of a master bath shower, a floor to ceiling frameless glass enclosure, and a wall mounted vanity faucet to accompany the solid granite sink!

Lots of details in this small bathroom, but each one serving a purpose and something for my clients to enjoy at the end of every day!

5 Quick Tips to Re-Vamp Your Interior

1. Shine a new light

One of the easiest ways to change the look and ambiance of any space is to shine some interesting light. Try adding new and trendy wall sconces, or a modern table lamp to add a touch of visual interest. Finally get along to installing those recessed lights and switching out the chandelier like you’ve always wanted.

2. Accessorize it up

More often than not rooms can be beautifully designed but are just lacking that personal touch. Try adding accessories and plants around a room. A small plant, modern vase of branches, or even a large palm can fulfill that inexplicit void in a space. Hanging a mirror, displaying a large piece of pottery or appealing artwork, can create a new focal point in a room.

3. Trim, Trim, Trim

Give the room a finished and cohesive look. Add a decorative crown molding and base board to a space. This will allow the walls to appear clean and united, and serves as a nice frame for the room.

4. Paint it bright

Don’t ever be afraid of adding some color to your world. If your walls at home are bare white, try coating them with a soft neutral to start off…or have a little fun with bright, saturated accent walls. A great and modern technique is to paint your ceiling…this creates a more open and vibrant space, or can allow it to feel much more intimate.

5. Rearrange that furniture

You know it’s been sitting in the same spot for long enough. Try rearranging the furniture to suit the lifestyle you are living today. You’d be surprised how the simple rearrangement of a chair or love seat introduces an entirely different feel and function of a space. Additionally, it allows for a less cluttered mind and relieves psychological anxiety.

Light Up Your World

When designing a space, lighting is key. The right light can accentuate any area by simply being placed in the perfect location or being directed to highlight an ideal area of a room. Lighting fixtures have the ability to tie an entire space together, being that one element to completely “make” a room.
Experimenting with various light sources in one room from overhead lighting, wall lighting, backlit lighting, or simple accents can offer a sense of warmth and comfort while being visually appealing to eye.
When a room offers beautiful tones of illumination from different areas it allows for visual interest in the space. This visual interest and feeling of comfort is what ultimately keeps people wanting to return, which is ideal whether you love to entertain guests, or are a business owner with a cafe or restaurant.
There are many types of beautiful lighting fixtures to enhance any area, these are a few that have caught our eye:
