Design Inspiration

Inspiration can be found anywhere; from a flower to a piece of art, a rock to a building, a song to a dinner plate. It is important that we allow ourselves to receive this inspiration. Expand your horizons and embrace your physical environment; Even the smallest things can embody the biggest inspiration.

A simple golf ball…

… Could transform into the texture on your new vase.

A song you are playing could remind you of driving through the country side last fall…

… And soon become the color palette for your new living room.

The beauty of all design is its ability to derive inspiration from anywhere. Your environment creates your unique design. The small things are what create the most interesting work. The cycle continues beyond the design, as people can be inspired by the space you have created. When they go on to create something else, another person will be inspired, and so on. This cycle is what keeps art and design constantly evolving.

4 Easy ways to get ready for the new year with a new work environment.

We all get inspired as the new year comes around. This inspiration may be in the form of working harder, being optimistic and improving your life overall. Since so many of us spend hours at our desks, I feel it is important to start the new year with some fresh updates to your work environment. This may be a large corner office, small cubicle, or a home office. In any case, here are some ideas of how you can update your office or workspace.

1. Paint – Paint is one of the least expensive ways to add change! Even if it is only 1 wall, or if you have the luxury of painting all of your walls, now is a great time to do it. If you haven’t changed the wall color in the last 5 years you will be amazed at the difference a new color can provide. Try a color that is light and crisp like this cool green for Behr Paint #410C Feldspar.

2. Organize with style – We all have papers and files that we need kept organized. I recommend using an accessory that you really like, especially if this item is sitting on the top of your work surface. Something like this faux crocodile tray is a nice upgrade from the standard plastic organizers.

3. Get rid of the clutter – Your workspace should be clean, organized and Inspiring. There is no way you will feel energized and ready to work if there is clutter everywhere. The new year is the best time to get rid of all the old stuff and clear the way for the new year.

4. Add a bouquet of flowers – There is nothing better than having a fresh bunch of flowers to accompany a work space. Pick a clean flower that requires little to no maintenance. I recommend sticking to 1 type of flower in 1 color per bouquet.
