Before & After

I know we how much everyone loves a before and after story, so here is a great one!

We recently finished a kitchen renovation in Redondo Beach, CA and what a transformation it was! We used the existing kitchen space AND dining room of a typical beach track home and combined the two spaces to create one huge kitchen! I selected gorgeous two tone custom glazed cabinets and by installing faux beams in the ceiling, and an island that was almost as big as a ping pong table, this kitchen became the perfect place for entertaining large crowds. It was over 8′ long and over 4′ wide. Check out the before and after of this amazing reno!

The floor plans below show how the space looked before – a small kitchen and dining space – and how we re-configured the two rooms to create the fabulous kitchen it is now. By removing the wall that separated the kitchen from the dining room, it allowed us to create a more spacious kitchen with more storage and counter space. We were also able to use bigger and better appliances (Viking) since the kitchen nearly doubled in size. It was a lot of work and a lot of engineering, but well worth it!

For this living room, I decided to put the emphasize more on the black elements, with the sofa in bright white to create balance (since it is the largest piece of furniture).

This bedroom features a good mix of black and white elements to create a luxurious space. Depending on which shade you want to highlight, you can also swap out some of the black pieces for white ones. You want to remember to have a good mix of both colors.

Black and white can read very modern, but when choosing furniture and accessories that have classic lines, you achieve this look while still maintaining a traditional aesthetic.

We Love Remodeling!!

Recent kitchen remodelAs the owner of an interior design company, I see a wide range of clients with different needs. We have the people with very unique taste who want our help in buying unique furniture and artwork, as well as those clients who have no idea what they want, but come to us because they know they need a change and professional help. Within the large variety of clients we see, the projects that stand out to be the best really are the remodel projects….kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, or even just some interior facelifts in the house.

Why, you ask? I guess it’s a combination of things. Partially it’s because we love seeing the huge change that a space can undergo when a remodel is complete. It seems like there is so much opportunity for amazing things to happen once you have the flexibility to open walls, lift ceilings, and build with some freedom. In addition to seeing the transformation, as a designer, we have so many more resources when doing a remodel. Don’t get me wrong, there are tons of furniture and accessories resources for clients who are looking to jazz up their space with new furniture, but when we do a remodel, there is flooring, countertops, cabinets, and other unique materials that an average consumer doesn’t have access to…and it is so fun to use them!

I think the last part of the puzzle is that we love working on all the small details. Every nook and cranny is important to us and we just love the thoughtfulness and practically that needs to come into play along with the design. It’s such a wonderful marriage when you can make something look beautiful and also be very function.

Anyone else out there feel the way we do about remodeling?
